What's New?

Remote or off-campus access to University Library resources, such as electronic journals and databases, is restricted to currently enrolled University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff. This limitation is due to licensing agreements we have with the vendors from whom we purchase the subscriptions.

While all official UM retired faculty and staff are eligible for University Library borrowing privileges, off-campus access to library resources is not included. Emeriti faculty are considered members of the current departmental or school faculty and therefore have off-campus access to library resources.

Information about accessing library resources from off-campus can be found here.

If you are able to visit any of the libraries within the University Library system in person, you can access most of the electronic resources from within that library building.

It is important to note that many of the library’s licensed databases are also offered to all residents of the state of Michigan through the Michigan eLibrary (MeL).  With a valid Michigan driver’s license, a state ID number, or a library card number issued from a public library in the state, retired UM faculty and staff can access many databases remotely.  A list of MeL databases is available at: http://elibrary.mel.org/screens/databasesubjects.html.
